
Prozac is a drug that is called an antidepressant. It is in a large group of different drugs that are called SSRIs. SSRIs stands for Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Prozac is formulated to cause effects on the brain chemicals that can sometimes become unbalanced. This unbalance is what causes the feeling of panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety.
Prozac is commonly used when treating patients who suffer from major depression, an eating disorder called bulimia nervosa, OCD also known as obsessive compulsive disorder, PMDD which is premenstrual dysphoric disorder and panic disorder.
As with all other drugs you should only take Prozac when it is prescribed by a physician. You should follow your doctor's orders and not take any more or any less than has been prescribed to you. If you have concerns about your dosage then contact your physician for more assistance.
If you are taking the pill form of Prozac you should never, ever break the pill, chew the pill or damage it in any way. Prozac is meant to be a time release pill and altering it's original form will cause more of the medicine to be released all at once instead of over time.
